Project Switch showcases a level streaming method to achieve interactive switching of geometry and lighting. It uses baked static lights with global illumination. A comparison of static lights with GI and dynamic lights without GI is shown at the end of the video.
The lighting set up in this project includes only lights that exist in real-life (There is one light in game per light in real-life) and excludes any additional lights commonly used to imitate or simulate a lighting effect, such as spotlights or rect lights placed at windows.
With the emergence of RTX and real time ray tracing, it is likely that high quality baked lighting solutions (enabling switching on/off lights and swapping in/out furniture) presented here, will continue to have importance in mobile/tablet applications.
