Notes
This demo showcases the use of Microsoft® DirectX® 12 and DXR technologies. We designed and created a scene that would utilize the cutting edge features of real-time ray traced Reflections, Shadows, and Global Illumination.
CHALLENGES & GOALS
The challenge for our team was to think creatively to about how to incorporate an enjoyable experience in a scene that needed to be visually breathtaking.
WHY THE MALDIVES?
First, in order to test the limits of real-time ray tracing, we were going to need a scene that would showcase reflections, translucency, and areas with stark lighting differences. A room at an ultra-luxurious resort in the Maldives provided us with the landscape to create a visually stunning demo and allowed a backdrop for us to create assets that would dramatically showcase real-time ray tracing.
MINI GAME
This is where we had the most fun! We could have settled with having toggle switches to enable the ray tracing features, but that’s not us! Instead, we created a mini-game where you control a drone and have to find the “lost” ray tracing lenses to enable the features you want to see. Not only can you toggle the ray tracing features, but you can fly around the room, and turn on/off the fan, lights, and TV.
