SEED is a proposal for an immersive sculptural experience which integrates art, science, sound, light and architecture. The sculpture commemorates the original Bramley apple tree (in the Midlands, UK) which is now sadly dying of an incurable fungal infection.
The sculpture links to vibrations from within the earth and live data collected from the surrounding orchard. The signals will be streamed live and experienced in real-time within the multi-sensory installation as light, sound and scent.
HOARE LEA worked alongside artist Wolfgang Buttress in designing the audio / lighting experience and producing a multi-sensory interactive VR walk-through to help present his vision.
The walk-through experience allows the user to follow the path as they move through the orchard, leading towards the sculpture before entering it to stand inside the large dome structure. The user can subtly experience the 3D spatial soundscape as they move through the space and past various audio sources hidden within the landscape and planting. They can also switch between day and night at any time to experience the integrated lighting scheme. At the same time (in actual reality) a specially prepared orchard scent is dispersed around the user to hit all the senses simultaneously. This multi-sensory experience reaches an awe-inspiring crescendo of light and 3D surround sound as you enter the dome and stand within the centre of the sculpture.
