In order to market their new development of Capitol Tower in downtown Houston, the team at Skanska charged TILTPIXEL artists with the creation of a sophisticated interactive tour. At the core of the project was an immersive 360 degree video tour that incorporated live action green screen shoots. The VR tour captured key elements of the 35-story Capitol Tower, which was designed by Gensler. Using numerous video shoots, individuals were placed throughout the tower’s lobby, bridge, tunnel entrance, bistro, office space and roof terrace. Aerial views and an enactment of the tower’s construction were also included. The interactive film was unveiled at Skanska’s “Skybreaking” event, which marked the start of construction and celebrated Capitol Tower’s addition to the Houston skyline. The event catered to future and potential tenants and members of the media. TILTPIXEL showcased the immersive environment through two separate Oculus headsets and a Vive. In addition, the 360 degree video was broadcast within an Igloo projection dome imported from England and constructed onsite. Participants walked or sat within the Igloo to gain a larger-than-life perspective of Capitol Tower’s soaring atrium and stunning outdoor terrace. By using state-of-the-art VR, video and compositing techniques, TILTPIXEL artists demonstrated the impact of Capitol Tower on future residents, visitors and the city of Houston.
