Notes
Meet Corinth’s educational project “Virtually rebuilding Çatalhöyük” conducted in cooperation with experts from Stanford University and University of California, USA. Çatalhöyük is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world located in Turkey, Anatolia, where archaeologist James Mellaart discovered in 1958 remains of Neolithic city. Çatalhöyük was hidden under a huge mound 20 metres high, where 13 layers of habitation were revealed. It was once housing up to 10,000 people and inhabited continuously for 1200 years between 7200 and 6000 BC, leaving behind faunal murals, interior decorations, burials and other sources giving us pretty accurate idea about how these first prehistoric farmers lived 9,000 years ago. Current 25 year long excavation project is led by Prof. Ian Hodder, Dunlevie Family Professor and Professor of Anthropology from Stanford University, who provided us with tremendous amount of material for creation of precise model. The aim of Hodder’s project is that the conserved wall paintings, sculptures, textiles, wooden and ceramic artifacts will be placed on display in a site museum, enhanced by virtual reality techniques and interactive video.
Corinth has therefore created an interactive 3D visualization of interior of Mellart’s Shrine 10 and its development over time. This interactive content can be used by both archaeological and architectonic experts, enthusiasts, teachers, students and whole community in order to raise awareness and learn more about our common past. You can use our apps on site, in a class or at home and create your own teaching materials and presentations using the integration to MS Office. Touch the history built by bare hands of our ancestors!
“Virtually rebuilding Çatalhöyük” project has been included into Corinth’s digital educational tool Corinth Classroom, which consist of thematic content libraries used in thousands of schools in 109 countries all over the globe. Corinth (former ArchAce), based in the Czech Republic and represented in Silicon Valley, is publisher of cutting-edge interactive educational content, using advanced technologies such as real time 3D objects, augmented reality, deep zoom microscopic images and 3D printing. Users of Corinth Classroom value its easy adoption, interactivity and that it makes learning and teaching more engaging. Nowadays Corinth is among the top trend setters in educational technology. Corinth’s been recently awarded as the “Most innovative runner-up” by SIIA (Software & Information Industry Association) on the American “EdTech” market and also has been recognized by Intel Corp. as one of the most exciting innovation in the field.
