Notes
Cornell Tech Manhattan Campus
Cornell Tech will be on of the most dramatic additions to the New York skyline. By 2018 Cornell will have completed the first phase of construction of there 25 year master-plan on Roosevelt Island, as part of a new generation of campus learning, residential living and co-operative business. The city, like the campus is an iterative process; change, development and expansion are inevitable for its survival. Therefore design must develop upon foresight into this growth. The connection between the city and the Island is limited to the F train and the Roosevelt Island Sky Tram, located on second avenue between East 59th and 60th streets. The Tramway Plaza site will become a major threshold between the island and the city, becoming a beacon for the city and the campus. Construction of a Manhattan campus will embark on a 3 phase, 25 year construction master-plan, developing a campus centre, student and faculty residences, corporate co-location offices and a connection to the 2nd Ave subway. These phases will be situated between the non-construction phases of the island master plan. The Manhattan campus will alleviate the pressures of programmatic resources on Roosevelt Island and establish connections to the city in a direct way.
