Description:
“Hazelwoodloft” is an interactive and mobile design visualization experience. Showcasing the interior and the exterior of a contemporary loft during both day time and night time, it’s a proof of concept introducing a new hybrid format situated halfway between visualization and advergames. With tablet ownership booming, the main challenge was to create an easily accessible emotive experience combining real-time photorealism and a rich user interaction.
Although descent examples of real-time architecture visualization already exist, they usually run on powerful hardware like dedicated desktops and none of them is available for the widely spread mobile format.
As consumer time spent on mobile is exceeding desktops and will soon overtake TV, the challenge was to create a prototype showing the potential of this next generation architectural communication medium.
Opening the door to a new interactive world through an easily exchangeable format, “Hazelwood loft” delivers a story that connects emotionally with the audience in a totally new way.
Note that this second generation tablet has way too many restrictions and limitations when compared to a video game console or a dedicated gamer’s desktop. That’s the logical reason why most developers don’t aim photorealism when targeting tablets, but we decided to take the challenge by using game art tools to build an intuitive interactive visualization that runs smoothly at 30 frames per second and in real-time on a mobile tablet.
