Notes
The world of arch-viz has been evolving rapidly for years, and with the advent of new technologies like Virtual Reality, we now have the opportunity to create experiences that until recently seemed impossible. As a result, it seems natural that architectural visualization is expanding into fields it had not explored before.
One of these fields is cinema. For some time now, we have been contemplating how we could leverage all the knowledge accumulated over these years in the field of Art Direction, and that's how HAL was born.
HAL is a tool designed and programmed entirely in Kinerama, intended to explore sets and interior designs in an immersive and interactive way. It has two modes: Virtual Reality and PC mode, enabling versatile interaction with the design and the exploration of multiple options. You can make changes in color, materials, and lighting. You can customize furniture placement, create design alternatives, save sessions, or capture high-resolution images at any time.
The interface is designed to be intuitive, comfortable, and natural to use, eliminating the need for a technician by your side. Additionally, the code has been developed in a completely modular manner to ensure agility and speed in creating each set, ensuring compatibility with the pace and timelines of the film industry.
However, in addition to the "Art Director" mode, HAL also features another mode: The "Director" mode. Once the design is validated, we introduce animated 3D characters into the virtual scene and create this mode in which the director can craft framing, camera movements, shots, sequences, a storyboard, or even an animated clip that can later be downloaded in .mp4 format. It's a comprehensive set of tools that allows the director to explore the cinematic language of their film and share it with the rest of the team.
