I did this image on a very boring day while in the office. Took about 6 hours in whole from modelling to rendering. Of course plans were from an existing design. The image was done in sketchup and 3dsmax. rendered in vray. I depended more on post work to make the image look real. The light beams are actually photoshop brushes set to screen, with a gaussian blur added to make it smooth.
