Notes
A short movie of the virtual realtime-reconstruction of the Palace Square at Wolfenbüttel (Germany) around 1740.
Modeled and published in 2010 for an exhibition in the palace museum of Wolfenbüttel.
About 90% of the buildings are based on old-fashioned research in the city- and state-archives. We used old cityplans, copperplates and paintings for the reconstruction of geometry, colours and materials. Additionally some modern analysises of the existing buildings found out their original colours.
Nearly 60% of the buildings still exist. But important buildings like the big tower and the houses near the palace, the gate and the library at the end of the movie are gone. The public space did change completely for the purpose of motorized traffic. In 1740 there was a hippodrome.
