3D Interactive Media for Cultural Heritage by Head
Mounted Display for stereoscopic view-The 3D virtual reconstruction of Houses of Faunus in Pompeii

Challenge
Our challenge was to create a realistic tour of the ancient ruins of Pompeii online
with interactive media.

Solution
Our solution was to create a software plugin with auto installation platform for web
browsers with stereoscopic view by helmet (Head Mounted Display) of the
reconstructed houses of Faunus in Pompeii. The virtual tour consists of interactive
features of the jewels, frescos, paintings along with hypothesized reconstructions of
the walls. In order to move throughout the tour, users must simply move their
head----no need to click on the mouse or use other handheld devices-- as head
movement from the headset controls the user’s avatar; users may also access the
tour through a web browser.

Results
Our tour is a fun, dynamic and educational tour through history.
